How to check a tradesperson's licence in Zimbabwe

Anyone can claim a trade. Licences, registration numbers and a verifiable history are what separate a professional from an expensive mistake.
What each trade should hold
Electricians doing fixed wiring should hold a Class 1 or Class 2 electrical licence and be able to issue a certificate of compliance for the work.
Plumbers working on municipal connections or geysers should be registered with the local authority.
Drivers carrying passengers or goods need a valid defensive driving certificate and the right class of licence for the vehicle.
How to verify
Ask for a photo of the licence with the holder's name visible, then check the name against their national ID.
Confirm the number is current, not expired — licences carry an expiry date, not just an issue date.
Ask for two recent client references with contactable numbers, and actually call one.
Red flags
Refusal to show ID, pressure to pay the full amount up front in cash, or a quote given without seeing the job.
