What a fair quote looks like

The cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest job. A fair quote tells you exactly what you are paying for, so two offers can actually be compared.
What should be itemised
Labour and materials split out separately, with the material brand or spec named where it matters (paint grade, cable size, pipe class).
How long the work will take and how many people will be on site.
What happens if the job uncovers extra work — a fixed hourly rate for extras beats an open-ended 'we'll see'.
Comparing offers
Put quotes side by side on the same scope. If one excludes materials, add them in before comparing.
A quote far below the others usually means a smaller material allowance or an unlicensed hand doing the work.
